ABSTRACT

Telecommunications is defined and placed in the hierarchies of information, of human needs, and of academic disciplines. A brief technology tutorial is presented on signals, channels, and networks. Human audio, visual, and text communication is described physiologically, physically, cognitively, and socially, and is shown to extend to the Telecom equivalents of telephony, television, and computer networking, respectively. The Telecom industry and its regulation are discussed and the rich future is described.
