ABSTRACT

This entry outlines research areas and service issues related to children’s use of information technology. A brief overview of research between the years 1995 and 2004 is presented, followed by current research areas being explored, including children’s information seeking activities, use and development of digital libraries, collaboration with designers of information technology, multicultural use of information technologies, and activities engaged in while on the Internet. Web 2.0 technologies (social networking, blogging, podcasts), virtual gaming communities, and the integration of these social technologies within libraries and schools is also discussed.
