ABSTRACT

Since the dawn of time, humans have relentlessly continued to develop and adopt various information technologies (ITs) to thrive successfully in their environment. Generally, the rate of adoption has depended on the adopter’s perceptions of the ITs’ net benefits. In this entry, we draw from innovation diffusion theory, and the DeLone and McLean IS success model to discuss the literature on IT adoption by individuals and organizations. Since the proliferation of newer and more powerful ITs is apt to continue unabated for many years to come, we suggest new ways of identifying, learning, and implementing new ITs.
