ABSTRACT
This entry provides an overview of the development of different types of libraries in Greece. Although the authors make reference to what is known of similar cultural institutions in ancient Greece, the focus is on modern period from the Greek Enlightenment and the establishment of the modern state in the early nineteenth century to the present. Special attention is given to recent trends, challenges, and accomplishments.
