ABSTRACT

This entry discusses the selection and management of serials in libraries. It provides an overview of the process of serials collection and management as well as current issues and controversies. Relevant definitions are provided as well as a brief history of serials management. Focus is on recent developments (standards, technologies) and their impact. Selection, acquisition, access, processing (including cataloging), maintenance, preservation, and weeding of serials in all formats are covered and important players in each process are identified.
