ABSTRACT
This entry emphasizes major developments at the Library of Congress since the mid-1990s, particularly those relating to strategic planning and to specific, future-oriented initiatives undertaken by Librarian of Congress James H. Billington. Thus it is by no means comprehensive. A broader and more historical overview of the institution as a whole is presented in “Library of Congress: History,” which outlines the first two centuries of the institution's development.
