ABSTRACT

Archival collecting is seen by archivists in some countries principally within the context of well-established archival appraisal and acquisition practices and principles. The author argues for a specifically North American approach to collecting. He notes: “Some would argue that the greatest emphasis, both practical and theoretical, on collecting has come from the North Americans, and as a result, this article concentrates on the topic of the archivist and collecting from a distinctly North American perspective.” (Editor's abstract.)
