ABSTRACT

HathiTrust is a partnership of research libraries whose purpose is to create a robust and permanent archive of digitized books, and to provide equally permanent access to them. Its foundational collection consists of several million printed books digitized by Google during the 2000s, but its content continues to grow as HathiTrust member libraries contribute newly-digitized materials. Roughly one third of the collection's content consists of publications in the public domain; these are fully accessible to the public. Materials under copyright are available for searching but not for reading or download. HathiTrust also provides a suite of research services and tools, and plans to add additional services, tools, and programs to its offerings.
