ABSTRACT
This entry provides an overview of some of the technical aspects associated with forward-looking infrared (FLIR) systems. Electro-optical imaging systems operating in the infrared, also known as thermal imagers or FLIR, have advanced to a level of perfection typically associated with high-quality systems. Applications involving the utilization of these systems continue to expand. These systems have been developed for integration on a wide range of military vehicles and have also been fitted to weapons and minefield detection systems.
