ABSTRACT

This entry examines the initial processing of multispectral imagery with an emphasis on terrestrial multispectral remote sensing imagery. Spatial and spectral sampling characteristics of typical classes of multispectral and hyperspectral imaging systems that operate in the electromagnetic spectrum from the near-UV through the thermal infrared are discussed in detail. References to system designs outside this spectral range are also given. Finally, the calibration and registration processes are discussed, and their application to a specific system, the MTI, are used to illustrate these processes.
