ABSTRACT

Ultrafast science has produced or underpinned numerous scientific advances. None of these would have been possible without the development of advanced femtosecond laser oscillators, because these are the starting points of virtually all sources of ultrashort pulses. Although scientific advances will continue as ultrashort pulses advance to shorter wavelengths and the attosecond regime, it is quite possible that an even greater impact will be felt through mass market applications in biology, medicine, electronics, telecommunications, and manufacturing, just to name a few.
