ABSTRACT
Color vision in primates may have evolved specifically to facilitate visual search tasks. Color coding is an effective way to code stimuli in visual displays that are searched and is perhaps more effective than other codes such as shape or size. For the color code to produce the best performance on search tasks, the colors must appear to be clearly different from each other. However, the difference between the colors is not the only factor that affects performance in search.
