ABSTRACT
This entry provides an overview of the piezoelectric effect, history, piezoelectric material, and manufacturing of commercial piezoceramics. Characteristics of the material including an explanation of terms and formulas are included. The growths in the use of analytical and numerical modeling through finite-element methods for analyzing systems using piezoelectric materials are covered. The various applications of piezoelectric materials and systems that use the piezoelectric effect are discussed.
