ABSTRACT

Leaders in developing countries have come to recognize that government alone has failed to meet developmental goals. In turn, these leaders have begun to look at innovative partnership types in an effort to improve the living conditions of their constituents. This entry will describe why delivery systems such as privatization have grown in popularity, the decline of statist thinking, constraints on effective public–private partnering, and examples of successful partnerships.
