ABSTRACT

Environmental policies, current environmental state, and the transnational environmental problems of China, Japan, and Republic of Korea are discussed. China's basic principle that environment is protected in the economically permissible range makes it difficult for the country to keep environmental standards. The pollution control in Japan is generally very good because of the success of command-and-control approach. The Republic of Korea is making huge progress in most environmental areas. Although there are various transnational environmental problems such as yellow sandstorm and pollution in Yellow Sea, these three countries are cooperating through various regional programs.
