ABSTRACT
This entry chronicles the rise of the Institutional Presidency. The history of the modern presidency is discussed by focusing on the development of the Executive Office of the Presidency. In addition, the issues arising, from an oversight perspective, of the increasingly large bureaucracy surrounding the president are also discussed.
