ABSTRACT

Donna Shalala, a groundbreaking educator and public servant, is President of the University of Miami and a distinguished fellow in the Economic Studies Program at the Brookings Institution. Dr. Shalala is a liberal. She is pro-choice and a strong advocate for women's rights. With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Shalala holds a doctorate in political science and has served in a number of high-level governmental positions, most notably as the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services in the Clinton Administration. In 2008, Donna Shalala was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award, by President Bush. Dr. Shalala is known for her extensive background in education, leadership, politics, and support for feminist ideals. She is a proud woman of her many accomplishments and devoted service to this country.
