ABSTRACT

organizational concerns in times of crisis are necessarily focused on continued viability, responsible citizenship, reputation, and legal liability, among other issues. Carrying out these functions requires a reliable workforce who, also necessarily, is focused instead on immediate concerns of shelter, safety, family, and security. This clash of motivations under urgent circumstances with high stakes outcomes leads to ethical challenges. Many of the issues of ethicality associated with crisis situations fit a predictable pattern and can be, thus, anticipated and planned for as part of a crisis management plan. This entry outlines how the patterns of ethicality evidence themselves in crisis situations.
