ABSTRACT
The Advocacy Coalition Framework is one of the leading theories of the policy process with an emphasis on the role of science in policy, policy change, learning, and coalition behavior. This entry provides an overview of the framework's original foundations and later revisions, which include modifications to ease applications outside of the United States. Based on a review of more than 225 applications from around the world, the framework's theoretical strengths and weaknesses are summarized. This entry concludes with recommendations for using the framework to guide public policy and public administration inquiry.
