ABSTRACT
This entry examines several issues, including a review of the GI tract as it relates to the absorption of drugs, a brief review of the structures of peptides and proteins, a discussion of enzymatic and physical barriers for intestinal permeability of peptides and proteins, the absorption of amino acids, peptides, and proteins across the GI tract, and a review of possible ways to improve the absorption of poorly bioavailable peptide and protein drugs.
