ABSTRACT
This entry aims to review the published literature on the absorption of drugs through the oral mucosa. Special attention is paid to the prevention of pre-systemic metabolism via drug administration by the buccal and sublingual routes. The structure and blood supply of the oral mucosa are discussed, as well.
