ABSTRACT
The tablet provides a versatile drug delivery system. Though most tablets are meant to be swallowed intact, the same basic manufacturing processes, associated with appropriate formulation, provides medicines for sublingual, buccal, rectal, and vaginal administration, together with lozenges, soluble, dispersible, and effervescent tablets. This entry details the stages of tablet compression and methods of tablet production and discusses the behavior of particles under a compressive load.
