ABSTRACT
In order to exert its pharmacological or toxic effects, a drug must interact with its receptors at the action sites or therapeutic targets. This chapter reviews the biological barriers that the drug must cross, the mechanisms implicated, and how the drug formulation and physicochemical characteristics affect the absorption rate and extent.
