ABSTRACT
The pathway that leads toward a successful cycle scale up involves the understanding and control of all three process steps: freezing, primary and secondary drying. This entry addresses each of these steps separately, and also discusses the problem of scaling up a freeze-drying cycle from lab-scale equipment to a production unit. To conclude, the entry reviews current tools available to assist freeze-drying practitioners.
