ABSTRACT

Contact lenses are made of polymeric materials designed and fabricated to correct vision. Since these lenses are removed from the eye after a prescribed wear time, lens care products are required to clean, disinfect, and rinse them prior to reinsertion to avoid ocular infections and other complications. This entry first presents a historical overview of lens care products, then moves to discuss in detail the classification of currently marketed contact lenses in terms of materials used in manufacture, and classification of lens care products based on their functional purpose and individual components.
