ABSTRACT

The best approach for reducing the death and suffering of humans and animals due to viral, bacterial, and parasitic diseases is prevention using effective vaccines. In addition to prevention of infectious diseases, the field of vaccine technology has shown potential in other areas, such as cancer treatment, reproduction, and modulation of animal productivity. This entry is primarily focused on vaccine strategies, and details several examples such as live attenuated vaccines, gene-deleted vaccines, inactivated vaccines, and several other types.
