ABSTRACT

The purpose of the U.S. Department of Transportation Hazardous Material Regulations (HMR) is to promote safe transportation of hazardous material through communication of information concerning the hazards of the materials being transported. Through the communication of this information, accidents are either avoided altogether or emergency responders are properly prepared to respond to a given incident or accident. The requirements of HMR that are covered in the entry include the following: Shipping papersMarking and labelingPlacardingEmployee trainingThe entry also describes compliance measures that must be met for a supply chain to transport hazardous materials.
