ABSTRACT

This entry describes the origins of just‐in‐time and its applicability to creating the demand‐driven supply chain. This includes the fundamentals of “lean” supply chain that seeks to eliminate sources of risk. The entry addresses a broad range of related tools to create this environment. Specifically it addresses eight fundamental JIT principles:Seek a produce‐to‐order production schedule.Seek unitary production.Seek to eliminate waste.Seek continuous product flow improvement.Seek product quality perfection.Respect people.Seek to eliminate contingencies.Maintain long‐term emphasis.
