ABSTRACT
Antecedent soil water is the amount of water in the soil before infiltration of new water, and is often used interchangeably with initial soil water. The infiltration rate is affected by the antecedent soil water content; however, this effect varies for wettable and nonwettable soils and for soil profiles that are uniform or vary with depth.
