ABSTRACT
Possible reasons for failures — severe crevice corrosion in flanges in cooling water systems and crevice corrosion in threaded cast and forged joints in fire water systems of high-alloy stainless steels — are discussed, and recommendation given for selection, quality control and use of these materials in future sea water pipeline systems.
