ABSTRACT

Hand cans and backpack sprayers have become a very popular and versatile tool for the turf/land-scape manager. Successful use of this inexpensive equipment can be assured through simple calibration. When a pesticide fails to do the job, the fault lies most times with the applicator and/or the equipment — not the chemical. The preference is to use a TK-3 flood jet nozzle adapted to the wand of a hand can. The typical hand sprayer commonly in use has a usable capacity of 192 oz. Hand sprayers and backpack sprayers are like any other pieces of equipment. When calibration and normal maintenance are done and common sense is used, they will give many hours of failure-free operation.
