ABSTRACT
Irritants are drugs that can cause an inflammatory reaction, aching, swelling, pain or phlebitis at the injection site or along the vein. They may cause sclerosis and hyperpigmentation along the vein, burning, local warmth, discomfort, erythema or tenderness. These symptoms are self-limiting and there are no long-term sequelae.
