ABSTRACT

Introduction Brain metastases are estimated to occur in 10-30% of cancer patients and twothirds of them become symptomatic during their lifetime. Although every solid tumor may spread to the brain, the risk of developing brain metastases is higher in lung cancer, breast cancer and malignant melanoma patients (Table 8.1). Breast cancer patients develop brain metastases in about 10-20% of cases, while brain involvement occurs in about 20-40% of cases of non-small cell lung cancer and 12-20% of cases in melanoma.
