ABSTRACT

The condition of chock shield plays a vital role in the successful mining operations. However, the condition of the chock shields deteriate often due to internal hydraulic leakages and will not offer adequate resistance. As a result poor condition of chock shield make longwall operations complex. Therefore, a novel real time instrumentation system was successfully developed and commissioned in one of the Indian longwall mine. The system was continuously acquired data from various underground sensors. It evaluated the chock shields performance on real time. Then it indicated various hydraulic failures on real time display monitor to facilitate necessary precautionary measures to avoid safety and production loss. The system maintained data quality and continuity due to in-built wireless operations. It forecasted successfully various hydraulic failures and adverse strata behavior. The system was developed an advanced virtual environment. Thus it has many unique features over the existing systems. Therefore, the real time system played a vital role in providing continuous information of supports and strata for effective and efficient Indian longwall operations. This paper discusses the innovations in development and applications to successful longwall operations.
