ABSTRACT

The authors make an experimental study and theoretical analysis on electromagnetic radiation (EMR) characteristics of compound coal or rock seams under uniaxial stress state. The study result shows that deformation and fracture of compound coal or rock under load can produce EMR, and the EMR characteristic (intensity and the pulse counting etc.) is closely related to the deformation and fracture process of compound coal or rock and it is different from that of single coal or rock. In the process of deformation and fracture of coal body in compound coal or rock seams the EMR is more intense than that of single coal or rock, while the EMR of compound rock is feeble than that of single rock. It is important to the study of EMR generating mechanism for orientational monitoring and forecasting coal or rock dynamic disasters, such as coal and gas outburst, rock burst etc..
