ABSTRACT

12 frost heave and thawing settlement experiments have been carried out on the common-seen clay in Xuzhou by using the self-developed frost heave and thawing settlement device. There are more than 100 thousand valid data collected by using 104 temperature seniors, 10 frost force seniors and 13 settlement seniors. After analyzing the experimental data, the laws of the frost heave and thawing settlement in the vertical direction have been developed while the soils are artificially frozen and the cooling front extends in the horizontal direction. The conclusions of the research can provide a theoretical basis of using artificially frozen method in underground engineering, municipal engineering and so on.
