ABSTRACT

The present study is a contribution to the investigation of the conditions under which the anisotropic fluid phase exists and of the transition of the anisotropic liquid into its amorphous counterpart. We consider the anisotropic fluid as a system of axially symmetric molecules, and with the molecular axes displaying order over long distances. Studying the mutual dependence of the degree of order and the elasticity modulus explains the existence of the anisotropic fluid phase and also its sudden transformation into an isotropic fluid. In addition, it now becomes possible to estimate the latent heat of the transformation and the difference in heat capacity between the anisotropic and isotropic phases.
