ABSTRACT
Pesticide residues resulting from agricultural and industrial applications that are carried off by rivers eventually drain into the sea. Sometimes, these residues reach the sea through estuaries. Two major reports, one on pesticide residues monitored all along the river systems of the Ganga, Yamuna and Hooghly (Ray, 1990) and another on pesticide residues from agricultural fields and their transport to the Ganga (Agnihotri, 1993) are of particular interest.
