ABSTRACT

It follows, also, that hydrology would be another factor to aid in the discrimination between watersheds. Other governmental agencies, especially the US Geological Survey (USGS) could be a major source of hydrological information. The National Water Quality Assessment Program has several initiatives within the Gulf Coast and the Southeast region. These include the Trinity River Basin in Texas, ChicotEvangeline Basin in Louisiana, Mobile River Basin in Alabama, ApalachicolaChattahoochee Basin in Georgia and Florida, Georgia-Florida Coastal Plain in Georgia and Florida, South Florida (including the Everglades) in Florida, Santee Basin and Coastal Drainage in North and South Carolina, and the AlbermarlePamlico Drainage in Virginia and North Carolina. Concerted efforts along these lines have begun over the last 10 years. These, along with other efforts including EMAP, may contribute significantly to the characterization of the hydrological network in this region.
