ABSTRACT

Over the past several years, crime mapping has emerged as an important tool for supporting problem solving and prevention efforts at the Boston, Massachusetts Police Department. The Boston Police Department has over 2,000 sworn officers serving a city with a population of 574,283. Through the use of the GIS technology, the Department has made great strides in advancing crime mapping and applying it to support their mission of Neighborhood Policing. Today, the Department has a reputation as one of the most advanced law enforcement agencies in the nation in its use of GIS.
