ABSTRACT

In the early 1990s few organisations had recognised the extent of bullying taking place in the workplace. While the personnel managers may be faced with dealing with the occasional serious harassment case, few organisations had considered the need to develop formal policies and procedures to deal with the problem of bullying. The research of the journalist Andrea Adams (1992) raised awareness in organisations of the issues involved and this influenced a number of organisations to take a closer look at whether bullying was a problem within their own organisation.
