ABSTRACT

There is a long history of oilseed flax production which has been noted elsewhere in this book. There are therefore traditional uses and markets, which are rooted in the commerce and culture of several nations. Attention is often focused on international trade, particularly on the volume and value of exports and imports in the countries involved based on the publication of trade figures. In addition, however, substantial domestic trade can also take place, and such is the case for a sizeable portion of the annual production of oilseed flax. For such internal trade, official records may be less precise.
