ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews emerging technologies capable of presenting new and existing traffic information to road transport users in radically different ways from that of the traditional traffic sign. The human factors implication of these emerging capabilities are considered in the next chapter, primarily from the perspective of the road vehicle driver. The technologies and human factors issues discussed in both chapters, however, are relevant to the presentation of traffic information in other transport domains, such as rail and aviation.
