ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a PPGIS project at Kofiase in the Ashanti Region of Ghana that was implemented to help build collaborative forest management institutions in the community. The chapter begins with a brief introduction, followed by a description of the physical and socio-economic conditions of the study area. The GIS exercises that were implemented within the community are explained. The results of the study, including problems and challenges encountered in the implementation of the project are then discussed. The chapter concludes with a discussion of lessons drawn from the study.
