ABSTRACT

Teamwork is a central feature of control-room operations, yet there appear to have been few attempts to review existing literature on team working and apply it to nuclear control rooms. Undoubtedly, attempting to identify and analyse all of the factors that could influence team performance is a considerable undertaking. Some researchers have taken on this task, however (see Chapter 8). One such attempt to identify and classify the factors that affect team performance was devised by Foushee and Helmreich (1988). They identified three main factors: inputs, process and outputs. These are illustrated in Figure 11.1.
