ABSTRACT

Research on Drosophila melanogaster has provided tremendous insights into basic cellular biology as well as the complex patterns and ultimate outcomes of multicellular development. Now in the postgenomic era, new resources continue to make Drosophila a powerful model organism in which to address a variety of biological questions. One recently added and notable resource is RNA interference (RNAi),1,2 the process whereby double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) silences genes containing identical sequences (see Chapter 1 for a detailed description).
