Small interfering RNAs are powerful gene silencing tools. The most potent RNAi effectors in Drosophila are RNA duplexes with 19 bp of homology to the target gene and 2 nucleotide 3' overhangs.1,2 Nearly two years ago these 21 to 23 nucleotide small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) were shown to effect potent and sequence-specific silencing of exogenous and endogenous genes in mammalian cells.1
