Systems Analysis Tool (SAT) book
One methodology used for macroergonomic assessment of work-system processes is the systems analysis tool (SAT). Traditionally, approaches to work-system design have focused on technology-centered design and adopted a “leftover” approach to function and task allocation (Hendrick and Kleiner, 2001). Based on systems engineering (Hall, 1969) and a system analysis framework for policy decision making (Mosard, 1982), the SAT integrates these methodologies with that of a macroergonomic approach to identify problems and probable causal factors as related to work environments. SAT also can provide a process for developing strategic and systematic solutions to problems arising in a work environment. Development of potential solution alternatives and evaluation of the costs and benefits of these potential solutions are accomplished by applying the SAT.
