ABSTRACT

The decision requirements exercise (DRX) was developed by Klein Associates to help teams make explicit the critical decisions they made as they completed a task (Klein, 1992). This exercise method was developed as a tool to aid nuclear power-plant controlroom crews in their debrief following a training session or actual event (Klinger and Klein, 1999). The foundation of the method is the decision require-ment table, which has been used extensively to represent the decision requirements of individuals within a complex environment (Table 52.1). The method has been shown to be flexible and effective in a wide range of domains, and it serves a variety of application areas and research goals.
