ABSTRACT

The TARGETS (targeted acceptable responses to generated events or tasks) measurement approach uses a behavioral checklist (Figure 53.1) to record the occurrence or nonoccurrence of responses to trigger events embedded in job-relevant scenarios. The “trigger events” serve as opportunities for team members to perform behaviors or skills targeted for measurement. For each event, appropriate individual or team responses are identified a priori using domain experts and published performance standards. During the exercise, the instructor or evaluator uses a checklist that lists each event and the appropriate responses to the event.
